Established in 1887 as one of the first modern research universities in the United States, Clark is situated adjacent to University Park in the Main South neighborhood of Worcester, Massachusetts. It has superb programs in psychology, geography, physics, biology, and entrepreneurship as well as in political science and economics.

Clark's most famous faculty member and alumnus is arguably Robert H. Goddard, the father of modern rocketry, who received his MA and PhD at the University, taught here, and performed experiments on campus. Besides Goddard we have had many other distinguished faculty and alumni including recipients of an Emmy and a Golden Globe Award, two Pulitzer Prizes, and America's first Nobel Prize in the sciences. From founding the American Psychological Association to founding Panera Bread, Clark notables also include at least three living billionaires, perhaps most famously, Jeffrey Lurie, owner of the Philadelphia Eagles. Other alumni include former Mayor of Worcester Raymond Mariano, early 20th century Chinese romantic poet Xu Zhimo, and one of Forbes 30 under 30 in Education entrepreneur Rebecca Liebman who graduated in 2015.

With an undergraduate student population of 2,300—counted as the second smallest among the top 75 national universities ranked by U.S. News—Clark is well known for its intimate environment. Yet with its the large cohort of international students and the substantial funding for research made available to Clarkies, one would never know.

Outside the bounds of our campus, students are active in the community. Under the nationally known University Park Partnership, Clark collaborates with the University Park Campus School, the Main South Community Development Corporation, and other partners on urban revitalization and neighborhood improvement.
